San Salvador - Santa Ana 97-77 There was no surprise when 11th ranked Santa Ana (1-4) was crushed on the road by second ranked San Salvador (4-1) 97-77. San Salvador players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a good game for Dominican forward Cristian Joan Duran (201-1996, college: Tenn Tech) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 27 rebounds and 6 assists. Panamanian Alejandro Scantelbury (199-1993) contributed with 28 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Panamanian Jonathan King (193-1990, college: ACU) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists and Irving Sandoval (180-1988) added 26 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Santa Ana. Santa Ana's coach let to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. San Salvador have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 4-1 record having just one point less than leader Metapan, which they share with Santa Tecla. Santa Ana at the other side stay at the bottom place with four games lost. They share the position with Chalchuapa. San Salvador will play against Santiagueno (#5) in the next round. Santa Ana will play against Cojute (#9) in Cojutepeque and it may be a tough game between close rivals. They outrebounded Chalchuapa 50-29 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Santa Tecla especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.5 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a good game for Colombian Michaell Jackson (190-1987) who led his team to a victory with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Dominican guard Jose Liriano (189-1998) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Five Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. Santa Tecla's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Abraham (182-1987, college: App State) replied with 47 points (!!!) and 6 steals and American forward Jose Ortiz (190-1990, college: DelVal) added 28 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Chalchuapa. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with San Salvador. Chalchuapa at the other side dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. They share it with Santa Ana. Santa Tecla will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Chalchuapa will play against Santa Ana (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Local Aguila (2-3) outscored higher ranked Fantasmas (2-3) 92-50. Aguila dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Fantasmas' 26. They outrebounded Fantasmas 47-28 including a 38-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Aguila players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Fantasmas' players. It was a good game for guard Bryan Garcia (168-1997) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Cuban Oreste Torres (204-1987) contributed with 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Cuban point guard Osmel Oliva (180-1987) replied with 24 points and 5 rebounds and American JaCarre Crockett (192-1996, college: Philander Smith) added 16 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Fantasmas. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Aguila moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Nejapa and Fantasmas. Aguila will play against higher ranked Brujos (#4) in Izalco in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Fantasmas will have a break next round. Nejapa managed to secure a 4-point victory 90-86 on Thursday. Nejapa forced 19 Cojute turnovers. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Telvin Gabriel (198-1994, college: Lander) who had a double-double by scoring 30 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. Marcus Faison (196-1994, college: Salem St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds. Gabriel is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Andravious Smith (196-1995, college: Tougaloo) who recorded a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 21 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Durante Lee (196, college: Purdue NW) added 27 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Cojute's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total fourteen players in this game, but that didn't help. Nejapa moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Aguila and Fantasmas. Cojute at the other side dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. Nejapa will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cojute will play at home against Santa Ana (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
